Let it begin, again~

ClintonwithSuu_Kyi
Two powerful and determined women, the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
with Aung San Suu Kyi of Burma/Myanmar in December 2011.

With her expected  announcement later today, Hillary Clinton will once again run for President.

Hopefully she will have better campaign advisors this time around.

To compete in this very hostile environment, is not for the weak of heart, mind, or spirit.

It is going to get ugly fast and she will be hit from every side.

To say that Hillary is more than qualified for the job is unnecessary.

Her list of Political achievements is daunting.

She has more political experience, that most men have ever gone into a Presidential campaign with, in my lifetime.

Success for Hillary is personal to me.

I have waited all of my life to see a woman in the White House and Hillary has been the only woman, so far, who has had any chance of succeeding.

Is she perfect, absolutely not.

But then neither was any man who has ever run.

Most, not all, of the sins that she has been accused of in her campaigns, have been preceded by similar ones by a male candidate.

The absolute fear in this country of a woman President, like racism, is just as strong now, as it has been for hundreds of years.

I find this sexist opposition unsupportable.

I came from a very strong, very  protective, female dominated family.

My grandmother gave birth to 18 children and my mother raised me as a single parent.

Later after leaving home and moving to California, I learned just how sheltered I had been.

I came of age in L.A. at the budding or awakening of women’s rights groups, like NOW.

And later the ERA Movement.

Gloria Steinem was my hero in the late 60’s in California and being there at that time was exciting.

People were eager to finally be free to express their newly acceptable feelings of equality in race, gender or sexual preference.

Soon to follow were strong women in California’s political arena, like Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein.

A puzzling fact was, that with all of their apparent statewide support, a woman has still never been elected Governor there.

Women have come a long way, in both politics and their personal rights in this country, but the White House remains at this time, unacceptably, unattainable.

And it may remain so, unless by some miracle, Hillary can overcome the mountain that stands between her and her aspiration to become our first woman President.

I have great faith in Hillary’s abilities, she is strong, determined and fully capable of doing the job.

What will the next year bring?

Only time will tell what her opponents have in mind, as they gather together to formulate their plans to try to defeat her.

But whatever they come up with, I think that this time she is better prepared to deal with it and them.

So, let it begin, again.
